Starting from the wonder of the Sassi di Matera, the 30-kilometres coastline on the Ionian Sea will take you to the Mediterranean maquis which is close to the wonderful sandy beaches of the Metapontino area – including Metaponto, Pisticci and Policoro.Worth visiting are the hilly area,
the Collina Materana as well as the breathtaking valleys of the Badlands (clay formations eroded by water), the Gallipoli Cognato-Piccole Dolomiti Lucane and a portion of the Pollino National Park. There are also two nature reserves, the San Giuliano Regional Nature Reserve and the “Bosco Pantano” in Policoro.
