Downloadable materials are available in the Download section of the portal, where additional resources will be progressively made available. They can also be requested at the APT – Tourism Promotion Agency offices (www.aptbasilicata.it), at accommodation facilities, and at private information points.

What tourist information points are available in Matera?
The main institutional infopoint currently available is the portal materawelcome.it.
There are also private infopoints in the city, managed directly by agencies and tourism operators.

Is it possible to access the Sassi and the historic center by car?

A large part of the Historic Center and the Sassi districts is a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) or an Urban Pedestrian Area (APU) and therefore not accessible by car. To avoid fines, we recommend checking with your accommodation providers before arrival to take advantage of affiliated services, receive assistance, and arrange parking in authorized areas and/or use buses and shuttles.

Where can I park my car to visit the city?

To visit the city, it is necessary to leave your car in one of the authorized parking lots or in paid parking areas (blue lines) marked along the streets. Generally, we recommend that visitors entering the city use the following parking lots:

Via Lanera for those arriving from State Road 7 – Exit 1 “Matera Sud”;

Via Saragat for those arriving from State Road 7 – Exit 2 “Matera Centro.”

From both parking lots, the historic center is easily reachable on foot or by shuttle bus.

Alternatively, you can use the open-air parking lot at Piazza della Visitazione – Via Aldo Moro.

From the Via Saragat parking lot, it is possible to reach the Sassi by taking the Linea Sassi of the local public transport operated by Miccolis Spa, running every half hour.

Where can tourist buses park, and where can passengers be dropped off?
Tourist buses arriving in Matera can enter the city exclusively via Exit 2 – Matera Centro of State Road 7, using the municipal road Aia del Cavallo. They are required to perform loading and unloading operations only at the parking area of Piazza Matteotti near the Central Station and must park exclusively in the following authorized private parking lots:

How do you get to Matera from the airport?

The main airport serving the city of Matera is the Bari Palese – Karol Wojtyla International Airport. Daily shuttles to and from Matera are available through Pugliairbus (info: http://www.aeroportidipuglia.it/bus-pugliairbus-).

Yes, the tourist tax in Matera is applicable throughout the year.
The application of the tourist tax in the Municipality of Matera is set at €4 per person per night for stays in four- and five-star accommodations, and at €2 for stays in three-, two-, and one-star accommodations, including B&Bs, holiday homes, guest houses, short-term tourist rentals, etc.
The tax is applied for the first three consecutive nights.
