Following frequent complaints about the risks caused by drivers of bicycles and electric vehicles who usually cross the centre’s pedestrian areas on the wrong side of the road, often at high speed, the municipality of Matera has issued an order banning all bicycles and electric scooters, and any other kind of vehicles used for personal mobility and powered mainly by electricity, from the Urban Pedestrian Areas (APU). Therefore, cyclists, have to walk their vehicles when traffic either hinder or jeopardize pedestrians’ circulation. In this case they are treated as pedestrians and must use ordinary care and caution.
Failure to comply with this provision will result in the application of fines as provided for in article 182 of Legislative Decree 285/92.
