This year, the municipal administration has decided to manage tourist bus arrivals during the Christmas period in such a way as to cause as little inconvenience as possible to citizens and operators in the sector. At present, the absence of a bus terminal in the city and, at the same time, the ongoing works in Piazza della Visitazione, which effectively limit easy pedestrian access in the station area, have prompted us to seek new solutions.
The Serra Rifusa bus terminal was not considered a viable solution because it would not be acceptable for train passengers to alight in a construction site area. For this reason, it was decided to load and unload tourist buses on the Viale C. Levi slip road near the Matera Sud entrance. Once the tourists have been dropped off, the buses will have to leave the city center via the Matera Sud exit and park at the municipal car park or in authorized garages.
This solution, designed primarily to regulate traffic during the weekends of the Living Nativity Scene, combined with another parking area managed privately by the organizer, will allow arrivals to be sorted on both sides of the historic city center. Visitors will then be able to reach places of interest using the shuttle service provided by the urban public transport operator Miccolis. Upon arrival, visitors will find a mobile ticket office where they can purchase tickets for 80 cents.
