Matera is preparing to welcome the new year with an event of great national appeal. The City Council has approved the program for the last day of 2025, confirming its desire to focus strongly on events capable of attracting the public, promoting the area, and strengthening the “Matera” brand in the Italian and international tourism scene.
In a city now recognized as an established tourist destination, strengthened by its experience as European Capital of Culture 2019 and ready to be Mediterranean Capital of Culture and Dialogue 2026, New Year’s Eve remains a central event in the city’s promotion and entertainment strategy.
Italian singer-songwriter and rapper Coez, one of the most beloved artists on the Italian pop-rap scene, will be the star of New Year’s Eve, ready to transform Piazza Vittorio Veneto into a huge open-air stage. The evening’s program will be rounded off by the special project “New Year’s Eve 2025 – Together in 2026,” which will feature live broadcasts from the square in Matera, along with other squares among the most representative of Puglia, as part of the New Year’s Eve broadcast by Telenorba and Teledue, starting at 10 p.m. with live hosting by a presenter from Norba, DJ sets to accompany the audience into the new year, together with a dedicated communication and territorial promotion campaign.
“New Year’s Eve is a moment of great participation, capable of uniting residents and visitors in one large square,” emphasizes Mayor Antonio Nicoletti. “The choice fell on artists who will give the city national visibility, strengthening the path we are building towards 2026. Matera is reaching out to young people and returning to being lively, welcoming, and a protagonist, and with this program, we are heading in the right direction.”
“Our goal is to offer the city and the many tourists who will come to the city a high-quality New Year’s Eve,” adds Councilor for Culture Simona Orsi, “capable of combining the energy of contemporary music with a targeted strategy for promoting the area. We are confident that the combination of a popular artist and an important media partnership will give Matera a unique and unforgettable event. Matera must continue to grow, thanks in part to major events.”
