In light of the current weather conditions, characterised by below-average temperatures and particularly cold mornings and evenings, the Mayor of Matera, Antonio Nicoletti, has issued an order authorising the early activation of heating systems throughout the municipal area.
The authorisation is valid until 31 October 2025 inclusive, for a maximum duration of 6 hours per day, with the permitted operating hours from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day.
The decision is based on current regulations which, in the event of particularly severe weather conditions, allow municipal authorities to authorise the early switching on of heating systems for a daily period not exceeding half of that normally permitted, subject to justification.
Citizens, condominium administrators and heating system operators are invited to limit the use of heating to the coldest hours of the day, adopting responsible and energy-saving behaviour, and remembering the obligation not to exceed the maximum temperatures established by current regulations for heated environments.
This measure is necessary to ensure adequate living conditions and protect public health, given the continuing low temperatures forecast for the coming period.
