The Matera Film Festival is present at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival in the Italian Pavilion – Sala Tropicana 2, at the Hotel Excelsior, where it presented some of the new features of the sixth edition (#MFF6) scheduled from 8 to 16 November 2025.
Dario Toma, president of the Festival, illustrated the results of the competition entries, explaining the reasons for the tribute to Japan, and then announced new collaborations and awards.
The special tribute to Japanese cinema and culture, considering the year of the Osaka Expo, will be expressed through the special attention that will be given to Japanese animated cinema.
Special guests, in collaboration with Lucca Comics & Games, will include Japanese master Yoshitaka Amano (Shizuoka, 1952), one of the most important contemporary Japanese artists and illustrators.
Great importance will also be given this year to the section linked to environmental and sustainability issues, created in collaboration with ARPA Basilicata.
Collaborations with the Booktrailer Film Festival, Mondo TV Group and the First Peoples’ Festival – Présence Autochtone in Montréal have also been confirmed, continuing the cultural twinning that gave rise to the Air Canada Matera Award.
New partnerships with Giffoni Experience and Saturnia Film Festival have also been announced.
