Rock church

The façade of the church has been eroded by the weather and the main entrance has been raised a few steps higher with respect to the external floor. The interior has a pronaos and two aisles with apses. The church choir is raised above the nave and in each of the two liturgical spaces there is a free-standing altar with a circular base, detached from the back wall. Blind arches run along its side walls and two domes stand out on the ceiling, towards the altars. The church, whose original name is unknown, changed its name following the arrival of the Capuchin Conventual Minor Friars. This was a very popular place to celebrate Easter Monday in the past, and was also known as “Capuchin Day”. The inhabitants of the Sassi district used to spend a pleasant day visiting the church and eating a small packed lunch.
