The convent of the Reformed Fathers of St. Francis was founded in 1604 on the ruins of the old hospital from 1348. The convent developed around a small quadrangular cloister with the friars housed in the cells on the upper floor. After the abolishment of the Order in 1866, the convent was converted first into a hospital and retirement home, then into a place for provincial studies and then a library, and finally, into the headquarters of the Department of Letters and Department of Archeology for the University of Basilicata. Today it is home to the “so-called” Technological Hub, promoted by the city of Matera.
