Rock church

This rock complex extends along the right side of the Gravina gorge and was dug out on four descending levels, which are accessible among one another by means of narrow tunnels and steep stairwells. Starting from the second level on the floor overlooking the gorge, there is a fresco of a Madonna and Child between St. Nicholas and a sainted bishop located inside an apsidal niche in one of the rock-hewn rooms used as a church. The name of the patron, Cosimo Caione is legible on the frame, with the date 1839. Continuing down to the lower levels, there is a courtyard at the bottom enclosed by a wall for sheltering animals and a small opening from which one can reach the bottom of the gorge.
