According to the tenth edition of the Traveller Review Awards compiled by Booking.com based on over 232 million verified reviews from real travellers, Matera tops the list of the world’s most welcoming cities in 2022, followed by places like Bled (Slovenia), Taitung (Taiwan) and 7 other cities. Booking.com commented: “Encompassing celebrated architectural wonders as well as pristine natural beauty, the most welcoming destinations in 2022 offer memorable travel experiences in every corner of the globe. It has been the backdrop for blockbuster films, and its rock-hewn dwellings have made it a UNESCO World Heritage Site: Matera, this southern Italian wonder, tops the list of the world’s friendliest cities in 2022.” In the 2022 awards, Italy leads the way with the most accommodations receiving a 2022 Award, followed by Spain, France, Croatia, Germany, Russia, UK, Brazil, USA and Australia.
