After Rome, Milan, Florence, Bologna and Turin, Pimpa is now also coming to Matera. The family travel guide published by Panini Editore, dedicated to Pimpa and her special explorations, will also be available in the city of the Sassi.

With the guide entitled “La Pimpa va a Matera” (“Pimpa Goes to Matera), the Municipal Tourism Department presents the city’s history to the families of visitors from all over the world who decide to delve into Matera’s timeless beauty. The guide is especially aimed for children, who will be able to explore and play in the European Capital of Culture by learning about its history, legends and prominent historical figures, while being guided by Giuliana the Whale and other special friends. The Municipality’s Tourist Office is working with Panini Editore to produce the special guide, which will be available both in Italian and in English this coming spring.

“The aim,” said Mayor Bennardi, “is to arouse children’s enthusiasm and involve them in a game-based ‘tour’ to discover Matera. We are trying to keep the visibility of the city high, as well as planning to participate in upcoming fairs, such as the next BIT (Borsa Internazionale del turismo ) in Milan. With this project Matera joins the circuit of the guides for children and families published by Panini. It is an opportunity that we absolutely could not miss in order to fascinate children as future travellers, (including foreigners, since the guide will also be published in English), and arouse their curiosity about the beauties of our city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will donate some copies of this guide to Matera’s primary schools so that our children may become increasingly aware of living in a cultural heritage that is unique in the world”.
