Car Parks and Camper Area

Matera has invested in sustainable mobility, which will allow you to get the most out of the city. Although it is a rather small city, it is recommended that you plan your transfers in advance. Cars are only allowed within the ancient Sassi districts of the town during specified times and in designated areas. The two main entrances to the Sassi are via D’Addozio (near the “Villa Comunale” at the roundabout between via Rosselli and via Lucana) and via Bruno Buozzi (between via Ridola and via Lucana), which respectively give access to the “Sasso Barisano” and Via Bruno Buozzi. The main car parks shown on Google Maps are mentioned below so as to make planning your itinerary easier. Tourist buses arriving in the city are advised to follow the signs for Matera Centro. Short stops for loading and unloading passengers can be made on Piazza della Visitazione and on Via Castello. Buses can be parked for longer periods in the terminal in Piazza della Visitazione, in the Grassani Bus parking area in Via dell’Artigianato – zona paip 1, and at Autoparco di Matera in Contrada Pantano. Cars can park in the garages on Via Lanera, in the multi-storey car park on Via Saragat, Via Vena, Piazza Firrao, in the car park on Via La Malfa, and in the car parks in Piazza Matteotti and Piazza della Visitazione. Caravans and camper vans can park on the top level of the car park on via Saragat and on via dei Normanni. There are also numerous private parking lots for caravans, campers and tents served by shuttle buses to the Sassi districts and the historic centre, such as the Agriturismo Masseria del Pantaleone, the Agriturismo Le Matinelle and the Masseria Radogna.
